Biography:
Gina Marie Napolitan is an experimental filmmaker, multimedia artist, and arts educator originally from Brockton, Massachusetts, now residing in Los Angeles. Her films have screened at Anthology Film Archive in New York City, LA FilmForum, Antimatter Film Festival, Black Maria, and numerous other venues in the United States and abroad. She has received grants through the Princess Grace Foundation, Eastman-Kodak, and Mike Kelley Foundation, and has been awarded artist residencies at Echo Park Film Center, Automata Los Angeles, Vermont Studio Center, and La Macina di San Cresci in Tuscany, Italy.
Gina frequently works as a puppeteer and video designer on experimental theater productions at REDCAT and Automata. Her drawings, paintings, and collages have shown in multiple galleries and several of her works have been published in the Los Angeles Review of Books print quarterly. She received her BFA in Film/Video from Massachusetts College of Art and her MFA in Experimental Animation from the California Institute of the Arts. Gina is currently a professor in the College of the Arts at Cal State Long Beach, where she teaches traditional and experimental animation techniques. She is also a volunteer teacher and screening coordinator with EPFC Collective and Long Beach Community Media Arts.
